At the Democratie Slate Convention, at Worcesier, Sept. 22, 1847, the fullowing Resolution was oíTered by Amasa Walker, Esq. Afier a short dnto, during whicli Mr. Walker was repeatediy hissed by the members of the Convention, it was laid on the table by a large majorily: Resolved, That the principies of n sound and consistent Democrncy demand of the Democratie party a firm and unwavering re-sistnnce to any furlher extensión of Slavery in the tem'tory l.ereafter acquired by the United States." WH1G. At the Whig Stale Convention, at Springfield, Sept. 30, 1847, the fullowing Resoluiion was offered by Ilon. John G. Palfrey. After a warm debate, in which its advocates were repeatedly hissed by the members of the Qonvention, it was rejected by a large majorily : "Resolved, That the Whigs of Massaohusetts wili support no men for the offices of President or Vice President, but such as are known by their acts or declared opinions, to be opposed to the extensión of Sluvery." - Èmancipalor. A distinguisbed teacher, ond president of a college, once defined gonius to be ; "The power of mnking effbrts."
