The Whifrs ofthis District have unanimously nominated J. M. Howard for Oongress. He was present at the Convent on, and announced his ntention of stumping it through the District. The candidetes of the sevcral parties now stand thus: Liberty Ticket. A. L. Porter, of Detroit. Slavery Ticket. Robert M'Cleland, of Monroe. Pro -Slavery Ticket. J. M. Howard, of Detroit. UT5 The St. Clair Banner bnngs the following cemplement: We have received of Inte several numbers of the Signai of Liberty,' a fn nat ie nl abolition sheet publshed at Ann Arbor,in this state. We hope its patriotic editor, led on no doubt by tory gold for his attempt to disturb the hartnonyand sever the States of oiir glorious Union, will send ns no more of his illaqueated sheeï, nnless he consents to furnish us with a pair of gloves or tongs.'" The editor is evidenlly wild. We sent him a few copies ofjour paper with the hope of civilizing him, but we must give him up as ntterly inca pable of improvement - he cannot be tamed. OC5 Rev. A. McCaine's aecond letter to Luther Lee in defence of Slavery, is written with courtesy, in good style, but is rather we.k in argument .The first propos itionreads thus: "There is not in the. Bible, f rom the first verse in Genesis, to the (ast verse in Revelations, a single tcxl or passage which proiibits or condemns domeslic slavery.'1
