Dear Br. Beckley:- I forward to you nn xtract from the Pastoral address which pased unanimousiy at the late session of our Conference. I think I am safe in saying that morcdecided and working class of Aboüionists are not found in 1he State. I have ong desired to see that day in the history of ny denomination of Christians when the ause of the slave would have its equal rank s a moral and benevolent work in the hearts of its communicanls. This I think is true of he Wesleyans so far in our bistory. May it lvvays bc so, unt.il the end is accomplished, is my fervent prayer. We had an harmonious nd encouraging session.MORAL EM-KRPRISES. A corrupt 6ectional may always be letectecl by an unwiJJingness to mingle our offerings upon thenltur of human kmdnes?, uness it is demonstra! ed that the numbers and eputalion of our lavorite sect is incrcased hereby. Let a feeling of this description come from wliat quarter it may; ve arebound o condemn it. It is both churlish and antiCliristian. It can never meet with the approval of Him who had described the good man hue, "he hath clispersed, he hath given?to the oor, 1j8 righteousneas endureth forever."- Jsa. 112: 9. A true renard to the moral and enevolent enterprises of the age will set no íounds to its gifts, and make no distinctiond n the objects of patrimony except those which arise out of the more necessitous. It mattere i not whctlicr Ihc scnsibiütics of humanity arej deadened lo its own woe and destiny, ot is covered with ongoish and ta wailing oat the bitternesaofitss-jfferings, k8 claims are eqnal, loud and mperious upcm us. VVe need not make a tedious pilgr image in search of the claimants tipon our Christian pbilanthropy They are on every side of us. We might almost say, they cover tbe Earths1 broad surface. The thoughtless sinnor- -the m'Bgwded youth- the debauched violator of theseventh commandment- the heedfesa, vicious sabbathbreaker and swearer- rhe proflígate drunkard, and the wronged and oppressed slave, Aye! The deapised and broken-hearted slape even by the professed christian in his "thirst for gold" are before us; and all ihose means and influences calcnlated to remove their woes, and prepare them for elernal blessedness ahculil be pntrnuized by us witfi vigor and fïdclity. Lel us ever remember that with u?, as with our divine master, The field is the worlJ.' In this work sacrifices are to be made, many of the ornaments and endearments of our being, and old and long-existing frienclships, may be jequired. If need be, let 113 give them a]I, conecious that 'the Lord-toff eth the cheerful giver."
