A friend writes us from Richland, Kalama zoo County: "The Hection was not marked by anygrea eciiement by eitherof the parties - indeed i seemed as if the nig-ht-mare had seized th vitáis ofthegreat ruass of voters. ThÍ3 tow in 1840 polled over 12o vote?, at the last can vass it only pol led 93, and 38 of these wer enst in favor of l.iberty. Last fall we polle over 40 Liberty vol es, and the decrease thi fnll ia owing partly to the increase of last fa being cffected by loeul cnises, and parllv 1 the rernovai of about a dozen gennine aboli tionist from the place - but they will count i the aggregate. The vote of our candidate stood as follovvs Birney and Stevens received 33 votes each Bemant (for Congress) 33, J. P. Marsh (fo Senate) 34. The Liberty vote for Represen tatives was 30. A few abolitionists snpporte the Whig candidate for Representa ti ve - sti "nis warmest friends have abnndoned the idc of hissuccess. When wlll the whiga }earn not lo throw away their votes? If they teil the truth, there is no need of it. If as they say, all the abolitionists come from the win ranks, and thé wUg party is in fact an abolifion pir ty, they are nhargable with proes inconsistency in not unlting with Liberty's hosts." iTours in haste
