xn .lepwri ui me uxecuüve Comniittee of the Territorial Society speaks encouragingly of the prögress of t]le anU." slavery cause. Liberty principies are discussing extensively through the Lyce. ums and newspapers, and the Liberty party, organized under un favorable circumstances, polled severa! hundred votes ! In VValworth county, the Whigs attribute their defeat to the existenceof the Liberty Party. The report speaks of instances of slavehunting in Wisconsin, and says: "In the name of Humanityand Justice we protest against having our Territory made the slaveholders hunting ground ■- We invoke the free spirit of Wisconsin to rise indignant at the aggression. V0 protest against the law of Congress ofthe 12th of February, 1793, as being unconstitntional; as conflicting with State lawsas being at war with the "Declaration of Independence," the principies of national justice, and the word of God: bui, iCwe are to bethus annoyed by this species of land piracy, we entreat "that it may be done in due form, by an accredited officer ofthe National Government, and no longer left to some lesser menial oL the slave power." We have received the first numher of the "American Freeman"' 'published at Milwaukie, Wisconsin, by Rev. A. L. Barber and C. C. Sholes, at $2.00 a year. It ie just the size of the Signal, and is handsomely printcd, and edited with superior ability. Mr. Slioles fonnerly published the "Milwaukie Democrat," but becoming disgusted with sliam democracy, he changed the name and character of his paper, and is now an able advocate of "Genuine Democraoy" in its largest sense. He carne out for Liberty like a man, sending a copy of the Freeman to all hisold subscribers, to continue if they would, otherwise to stop. We trust the Freeman will be placed on a permanent foundation, and be well sustained.
