ít wculd be ludicrous, were it not als lamentable, to trace out all the absurdi ties and false statements that are mad b.y the advocates of the Democratie pa rt) of the present diy, in their adoration o Democracy. The most amusing specí men we have soen lately, is found in th Jacksonian, a Potitiac paper. The wrï ter goes into his statements with as muel gravity as though he believect every wort of whal he has writterï. His iirst position is that "the íeadinj idea of the Democratie party is Liberty' - that "it is opposed to every species o] tyranny over the mind of man." How ridiculous these asssertions look when contrastee! with the fact that every sixth person in our nation is a slave, and the Democratie party are far more forward, vigilant, devoled, and shameless than the Whigs in opposing every scheme of emancipation, whether gradual or immediate. This they cannot truly deny. And then to hear them telling that Liberty is the leading idea of their party! Uow contemptible are such pretences! Again this writer says:"Genuine Democrats ahcaijs make Lab erly an ascendant object, property a se quent and minor consideration." Does not a property represen tal ion 01 $12,000,000 of dollars exist in oue hall this UniQn? Every one knovvs it. Are the Democratie party trying to abolish it wberever they have the power? They are its most strenuous defenders. It is but a few weeks since Mr. J. B. Hunt, Representative foCongress from Pontiac, as well as Mr. McClelland, voted that , every pi-oposition- now mark this, and do not try to get off by saying no feasible plnn has been offered, &c - that every aroposition for a constitutional alteration of this property representation ought to be "promplly anddecisively condemned"! 'f et this writer says that the Genuine )emocfats make property a minor consideration, while they vote against the slightest alteration of this property monopoly! It is by a continual declamation in behalf of Liberty that the leaders deceive the honest portion of that party, and by a continual servility in action fo the Slave Power, they earn for their party the appropriate designation of the "Natural lies of the South"! The l'ree Democratie ' voters of the Nortb in intímate alliance ivith the Slave-Tyrants of the South, and I ihouting that Liberty is the leading idea c )f their party!
