Pursuont to public notice the friends o Liberty in Berrien county met at Ber rien, Sept. 22nd. The corvvention wa. organized by tlie appointment of H. W Hawly Chairínan, and J. I. Alexande Secretary. On motion the Convention proceedec to ballot for a candidato íor associate Ju dge, and Jacob Gerrish was elected. On motion of John Orr, a committee oVthree was appointedto'draft resolutions to express the sentiments of the Libertj party in this county. The following a raong oihers were unanimously adopted 1. Resolved, That wens a party hnve no now creed in politics to present lo our fellow citizens ; for otif principies are the same that werè adopted by our fathers of '76, which declares the inalienable rights of mnn.2. Resolved, Thai a solemn seïise ol duty to ourselves, oir country, and to God, compels us to withhold our sirj)port from the great pfo-sïavcry parties of our nation, so long ns they continue to trample on tho nghtsofthe people, and on the constitirtioñ'. 3. Resolved, that we view with abhorrence the sysíem (which existe in Michigan nnd some oi the other northern States}, of taxation, wíthotat representation. Resolved, That we niost cordially respond tothe nomination of James G. Birney, and Dr. Thomas, to the office of Governor, and Lieut. Governor of this State. 5. That we fully bolieVewith the immortal Washington that 'slavpi-y can only üe obolished by Legi.slntivenuthority, ai.d that sofof as our influence can be feit it shall nol bo wanting. 6. Resolved, That the Lrberty men of Berrien county, though fetf, ore united. and with their principies and men, such as James G. Birney and the present nominations for oiir county, can meet their opponenls in the open field, and whon their strong nerves tremble cali no Ionger friends of humanity. Resolved, That the procftedings of this meeling be forwarded to the Editor of the tfiles Hepublican for publicatio'n iñ lus ïaper.
