We have cnmpiled logetlier, as well as we could, the telegrafie reporls from the seat of war. They nre often vague nnd cnntradictory. But it seems to be fully established lliat Gen. Sco'.t has reached the city of the Monlezumns, after n battle which was much like the others - a bloody ono for us, and still more bloody for the Mexicana : that the Mexican forces have been badly routed, and Santa Anna has desired au armistice, which has been granled by Scott, but is subject to be onnulled by 48 hours notice on either side. This nrmistice was asked for oslensibly for the purpose of negotintion, but mosl probab]}' for the real purpOFe of concentrnting and rallying the Mrxican forces. Thus far the Americans have been os successful as they could have expected. They huve almost the whole coumry in their power, and are likely to bc able to hold t againft all opposition. Uut whai will they do with il - make il into Slaies, and admit them irno the Union, or hold the terrilory as a sulijugnled, con quered provincr-, by lhe power of a large standing nrmy ? The adp.iinistration papers are much elated wilh the prospects uf a speedy peace. [Jut tve have teen nolhing thus lar tojustify their joyful aalicipations. 07=" Mr. Peltingill, of the Kssex Transcript, announces thai liis connection with t lint paper hasceased. [Je hns had charge of t si.'ven years, and he nov relinqui.-ihes it chiefly on account of the delinquency of a porlion of his subscribers. - It will nol be a Liberty party paper hercafter.
